Yaxunah | Yucatan
Where is Yaxunah Located?
Yaxunah is in the central part of Yucatán about 19 kilometers from the great Ancient Maya ruins of Chichén Itzá. The communal land of Yaxunah, itself, is the location of a huge pre-Columbian site. Much has been written about the archaeological work at the site, but look for the name, Yaxuná, when you research this information, as the site and village are spelled differently for historical reasons. The village’s communal lands also contain ruins of colonial era haciendas, and the Catholic church on the plaza recently celebrated 200 years of existence. Much of the rich history of the village and area can be explored in the museum at the Community Cultural Center. Tours with knowledgeable guides also can be arranged to visit any of these points of interest. Read more about these and other opportunities by exploring the rest of this website.
